SOC* 109 - Sociology of Women Credit(s): 3 This course will examine the impact of oppression, sexism, and sex discrimination, as they exist in a patriarchal and capitalist society, while tracing the intersections of class, race, gender, and sexuality. The course will cover the following areas: slavery and the 19th century women’s movement; globalization and its effects on women nationally and internationally; fat-oppression; women across cultures; economic justice and class issues; sexual violence and sexual harassment; women and spirituality; women, power, and activism. Formerly listed as , not open to students who have successfully completed SOC 109.
