MAT* 172 - College Algebra Credit(s): 3 Prerequisite(s): Grade of C- or better in MAT* G137, grade of C- or better in MAT*G139, grade of C- or better in MAT* G184, or qualifying score on Placement Test. Course presents higher-level topics in algebra needed for success in pre-calculus and, ultimately, the calculus series. Topics include a review of linear, quadratic, and radical functions, systems of equations, matrix algebra, systems of linear and nonlinear inequalities, functions, inverse and composite functions, transformations of functions, laws of logarithms, exponential and logarithmic functions, and conic sections. Students will model and explore real world applications using the topics listed. This course requires the use of a graphing calculator (preferably TI-83+).
