Counseling Services
Counseling services are designed to be an integral part of students’ total educational program. Students meet with counselors, at which time they plan their program of study and discuss course selection, academic and career goals.
The counselor’s first concern is for the student, not only in the academic area, but also in matters of personal and social adjustment within and outside the academic environment. Counselors have the professional expertise and experience to help students grow in self-understanding, and to gain insight into the nature of everyday problems and begin solving them more effectively.
The Counseling Center also offers special workshops in study skills, time management, handling test anxieties, and a variety of life skills.
For additional information, contact the Advising and Counseling Center at (860) 906-5040, Room 208
Support Services for Students with Disabilities
Students with disabilities in higher education are protected by The American Disabilities Act and Amendment of 2008 & Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Capital Community College is committed to ensuring that all qualified individuals with disabilities have the opportunity to participate in our educational and employment programs and services on an equal basis.
To request academic adjustments, the student should contact the Disability Services Coordinator to make an appointment. It is the student’s responsibility to provide appropriate documentation that describes their disability in order to determine eligibility for academic adjustments. Adjustments are not provided retroactively, but rather academic adjustments deemed appropriate by the Disability Services Coordinator will be provided from the time of the disclosure and documentation review going forward.
If a student has been approved for academic adjustments, he or she must request academic adjustments from the Disability Services Coordinator each semester.
For additional information contact Helena Carrasquillo, Interim Disability Services Coordinator, 860-906-5204, www.capitalcc.edu/disability
